Hopes high for Knowle’s return!

The Kent & East Sussex Railway have advised that one of their resident Terrier locomotives, ‘Knowle’, will feature in their 50th Anniversary Gala next weekend, subject to a satisfactory boiler inspector steam test this coming week.

The loco has been out of action for some time pending work to the frame. A project was initiated earlier in the year to undertake remedial work to enable her to return to operation, and thanks to the efforts of staff and volunteers at K&ESR’s Rolvenden Locomotive Department, it is anticipated that she will be back working trains to mark the anniversary celebrations and for the coming few years.

It will be fantastic to add ‘Knowle’ to the roster of Terriers currently in operation, alongside ‘Martello’ at Bressingham Steam & Gardens and ‘Fenchurch’ at the Bluebell Railway.

Details of the K&ESR gala on 1st and 2nd June, including how to book tickets, can be found here.
