See ‘Poplar’ at Poplar DLR Depot in June

As part of an innovative educational programme being led by a partnership of The Terrier Trust, The Kent & East Sussex Railway and Global Learning London, ‘Poplar’ will be visiting the Poplar depot of the Docklands Light Railway in mid-June 2022.

Further news about the project with local primary schools – which has been made possible through the generous support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund – will be posted on this site in the coming days.

In the meantime, we are pleased to announce that on Saturday 18 June and Sunday 19 June there will be public access to the locomotive to witness what will surely be a once in a lifetime event and to view ‘Poplar’ with the DLR station behind it and the offices of Canary Wharf towering above.

This is a strictly pre-booked event with admission for only 20 participants in each 30 minute time-slot over the weekend to ensure there is a good opportunity for everyone to view the locomotive and take photographs. The engine will be on static display and there will therefore be the opportunity to stand on the footplate and enjoy a driver’s view.

To book your entry time for this unique event, please follow the link below. All proceeds from the opening will go towards the preservation of ‘Poplar’ and her sister locomotive ‘Knowle’, both based at The Kent & East Sussex Railway.

Poplar DLR depot is adjacent to Poplar station on the DLR, and a short walk from Canary Wharf tube station and the new Elizabeth line.

The organisers wish to record their thanks to the Docklands Light Railway/KeolisAmey Docklands for their work to make this event possible.
